Health Promotion

We are a Healthy School

At Woods Primary School we care about the health and well-being of all of our children.  We believe that a healthy balanced diet produces healthy and alert children.  Healthy eating is encouraged at our school through a ‘Healthy Break Initiative’ for the whole school, healthy menus in the school canteen and special theme days throughout the year.

School meals are cooked on site and the kitchen has achieved a Level 5 Food Hygiene Rating.  We encourage the parents of children bringing a packed lunch to provide healthy items in their child’s lunch box.

Each year we have a special health promotion week when topic work focuses of health and a balanced diet.  Members of the local community are invited to share in the teaching of healthy messages.  We enjoy visits from the Action Cancer Roadshow, the Dairy Council, the school nurse, sports coaches and parents who work in the medical field.

In school we promote drinking water and do not permit the drinking of fizzy drinks at any time.  We enjoy parental support in implementing this policy in full.
