BALLINDERRY RIVERS TRUST - Dollaghan Trout Project
P6 are taking part in the Ballinderry Rivers Trust Dolaghan Trout Project this term, and excitement levels are high as our 30 trout eggs have begun to hatch this morning! The children have taken on the important responsibility of caring for the developing fish, which includes checking the water temperature daily, monitoring the general health of the tank, and carefully removing any eggs that don’t survive.
Before receiving the eggs, we had a wonderfully informative session with Jillian and Frank, who taught us all about the work of the Ballinderry Fishery and the importance of protecting and restoring our local waterways. The children were fascinated by the lifecycle of the dolaghan trout and the conservation work taking place right on our doorstep.
Over the coming weeks, P6 will continue to nurture the fish as they hatch and grow, before releasing them safely back at Ballinderry Fishery. This has already been an exciting and meaningful learning experience, and we can’t wait to see how our tiny trout develop.
